Hey Zac, why do you have a webcam when you never use it?

This post is dedicated to 1 thing, answering the question that many people (many people = people who have wanted to have a video chat with me but didn't get to because I said no because my parents don't allow me to use the web cam) have asked me, "Why do you have a web cam when you never use it?" (well, that's the gist of the question).

Well good Sir/Madam, there are several reasons why I don't use the web cam other then the parents one, and here they are:

1. It's a built-in camera, now I know what you're going to say, "Just take it out, it shouldn't be that hard for a whizz kid like you", well, sorry to burst your bubble but that camera is actually screwed in quite tightly to the rotating poles (my camera is an omni-directional camera, which means that it can be rotated in several different directions, even odd and extremely weird ones, up to a 225 degree angle) in the monitor frame (that thing surrounding the monitor), also there is more work then just taking out the camera, I have to remove the wires as well

2. My internet connection is limited to 25GB of data, and if we go beyond that our connection is slowed untill it's reset by Telstra's system, and trust me, when it's slowed it's like, as slow as dial-up, which makes my family upset because we NEED fast internet for school and work, my sister is doing her HSC this year, my other sister goes to University, my Mum is also going to University (online of course), and my Dad needs to pay the bills (we pay online), and if you don't call that stuff important, then boy is there something wrong with you!

3. My laptop runs a lot of different processes (Anti Virus, Anti Spyware, Firewall, Web Browser, etc.) and turning on my web cam would just stack on more preasure on the CPU because there would be more processing going on, and the laptop's Power Supply because another device needs power, and if either overloads the whole computer could come to a complete failure and there is a slight chance my laptop won't boot up or even power up properly next time I need to use it.


So now you know why I don't use my web cam all that often, I might, some day, decide to start using it but for now, we'll just have to stick to plain old text chat
